Service 02 · Clutter, filth, animal waste, structural recovery
Hoarding Cleanup
We do not walk into a hoarded home and throw everything in a skip. Underneath the clutter there are documents, photographs and belongings that matter, and finding them is part of the job.

Summary
All Island Bio-Recovery has worked with hoarders and their families across Long Island, New York City and the tri-state area for 19 years. Some of those jobs were a full clear-out. Many more were a sort: recovering what mattered and removing what was making the house unsafe.
Hoarding cleanup is not heavy-duty housekeeping. Severe cases involve structural damage, blocked egress, rodent and insect infestation, animal waste, spoiled food and sometimes human waste, all of which are handled as biohazards, not as rubbish. It is also rarely a one-conversation job, and we will work at whatever pace the household and its family can manage.
What the work covers
Contents triage
We work room by room with you or a nominated family member. Keep, donate, discard. Cash, jewellery, documents, photographs and medication turn up constantly and are set aside every time.
Packing, transport and storage
Items you are keeping can be packed, moved off site and stored while the rest of the work runs, then brought back once the house is habitable.
Biohazard removal
Animal and human waste, spoiled food, used sharps and pest infestation are removed under full PPE and disposed of as regulated waste.
Deep cleaning and deodorising
Once the volume is out, floors, walls, cabinetry and fixtures are cleaned and disinfected, and odour is treated at the source rather than covered.
Structural assessment
Long-term hoarding hides water damage, mould and floor deflection. We flag anything we find and can remediate mould and water damage in the same visit.
How the job runs
- 01Private conversation firstWe speak to whoever is arranging the work (the occupant, a family member, a case worker or a landlord) before anyone comes to the door.
- 02Walk-through and planA free on-site assessment, an agreed order of rooms, and a written scope. Nothing is a surprise on the day.
- 03Staged clearanceRoom by room, with contents sorted rather than swept. Anything flagged for keeping is packed and labelled.
- 04Removal and disposalGeneral waste, recycling, donations and regulated biohazard waste are separated and disposed of through the correct channel.
- 05Clean, disinfect, deodoriseFull surface clean, hospital-grade disinfection where waste was present, then odour treatment.
- 06HandoverA final walk-through, the recovered items returned or delivered, and photographs of the completed work.

On cost
Hoarding work is priced on volume, condition and how much sorting is involved, so the on-site assessment matters more here than on any other job we do. Some hoarding claims are covered by homeowners insurance where there is an underlying water, mould or pest loss; we will tell you honestly whether we think yours qualifies.
Out of pocket, most jobs
$0
Most people we work for pay nothing out of pocket.
Most of our services, crime scene cleanup included, are covered by homeowners insurance. Where a crime has been committed, remediation for eligible victims and their families may be covered by the New York State Office of Victim Services. We work with the carrier directly.
The assessment is free and it happens before any work is agreed. You get a written scope, and you get told honestly which route applies, including when the answer is that nothing here is claimable.
After a tragedy you should not be left with the aftermath of a tragedy and a bill. That has been this company's position since it started.
