Summary

Discovering that someone has passed away after an extended period can be an extremely difficult experience for families, property owners, and those responsible for the property. In addition to the emotional impact, an unattended death may leave behind blood, bodily fluids, and other biological contamination that requires professional remediation.

All Island Bio-Recovery provides professional unattended death cleanup services for homes, apartments, rental properties, vehicles, and commercial spaces throughout Long Island and NYC.

Our team understands that these situations require more than ordinary cleaning. We approach each cleanup with discretion, compassion, and respect while assessing the affected areas and determining the appropriate remediation approach.

You should not have to handle the cleanup yourself. Our goal is to take care of the physical remediation so families and property owners can focus on what comes next.

Please do not attempt this yourself, and please do not call a general cleaning service. Bloodborne pathogens survive on surfaces long after a scene looks clean, and porous material (subfloor, drywall, upholstery, insulation) holds contamination that surface cleaning cannot reach. Our technicians hold OSHA HAZWOPER and Bloodborne Pathogens certification, and we are licensed by the EPA and NYSDEC to transport what comes out of the property.

What the work covers

When Is Professional Unattended Death Cleanup Necessary?

An unattended death can occur in many different types of properties and circumstances. The amount and type of remediation required depends on how long the death went undiscovered, where the person was located, and which surfaces and materials were affected.
Professional unattended death cleanup may be needed in the following scenarios:

Death Discovered After an Extended Period

When a person has been deceased for an extended period before being discovered, biological contamination may affect flooring, furniture, walls, and other materials. Professional remediation can help identify affected areas and determine what needs to be cleaned or removed.

Unattended Death in a Home

An unattended death in a residence can leave biological contamination in bedrooms, living areas, bathrooms, and other parts of the home. All Island Bio-Recovery can assess the affected areas and provide professional cleanup and remediation.

Unattended Death in an Apartment or Rental Property

When an unattended death occurs in an apartment or rental property, landlords and property managers may need professional assistance addressing the affected space. Our team can work with property owners and managers to assess contamination and determine the appropriate remediation.

Unattended Death in a Vehicle

A death discovered after an extended period inside a vehicle can result in biological contamination affecting upholstery, carpeting, seats, and other interior surfaces. Professional remediation can help determine which materials require cleaning or removal.

Unattended Death in a Hotel or Short-Term Rental

Hotels, vacation rentals, and other temporary accommodations may require specialized remediation following an unattended death. All Island Bio-Recovery can assess the affected space and help property owners or managers address the contamination professionally and discreetly.

Not every unattended death presents the same cleanup requirements. Whether the incident occurs in a residence, rental property, vehicle, or commercial setting, All Island Bio-Recovery can assess the affected area and determine the appropriate professional remediation approach.

How the job runs

Our Unattended Death Cleanup Process

Every unattended death cleanup is different. Our process begins with an assessment of the property so that we can understand the affected areas and determine the appropriate remediation plan.
  1. 01
    Contact Our Team
Reach out to All Island Bio-Recovery when you need assistance following an unattended death. We’ll gather the basic details about the situation and arrange an assessment of the property.
  2. 02
    Assess the Affected Areas
Our team examines the areas where the death occurred and looks for visible and potential biological contamination. We consider the condition of surfaces, furnishings, flooring, and other materials when determining the scope of remediation.
  3. 03
    Establish the Remediation Plan
Once the affected areas have been evaluated, we determine what needs to be cleaned, what materials may require removal, and the appropriate approach for addressing the property. The extent of the work can vary significantly from one unattended death to another.
  4. 04
    Perform the Cleanup
Our trained team carries out the required remediation of affected areas. This may involve cleaning and treating appropriate surfaces, addressing affected contents, and removing materials that cannot be adequately restored.
  5. 05
    Address Affected Materials
Materials that cannot be effectively remediated may need to be removed from the property. Any affected materials requiring removal are handled as part of the overall remediation process and managed in accordance with applicable requirements.
  6. 06
    Complete the Remediation
After the primary cleanup work has been performed, we review the affected areas to ensure the identified scope of work has been addressed. We then communicate with the property owner, family, or responsible party about the completed remediation and any remaining considerations.
